If your parents can not stand as guarantors, your relatives or acquaintance can also stand as your guarantors. The most important thing for the landlord is to know that someone will pay your rent in case you are not able to do it.
Usually, landlords prefer french guarantors or at least tax-residents in France as a sign of security. However, if it is indicated on the announce that foreign guarantors are accepted ("Garants étrangers" in french), then a member of your family or a friend from your home country may be accepted.
Your guarantor must be able to pay your rent in case you are not able to. That’s why the managers of the housing must make sure that the guarantor earns at least 3 times to 5 times the amount of rent. Added to this, the manager processes your application based on other criteria such as: the status of your guarantor's employment contract, his expenses, to verify his solvency. This is to avoid the guarantor or the manager of the housing to find himself in an uncomfortable situation.
Several solutions exist for those that can't get a guarantors. There are state solutions like the VISALE or Locapass guarantee (that need to go through a selection process) or private solutions such as our partner Garantme that can replace a physical guarantor. You can also search for solutions offered by your home country.
When you do not have a guarantor, there is also a possibility to pay several months’ rent in advance. Some student residences allow you to pre-pay three months’ rent. Write a personalized message to the manager of the housing when applying on the platform.
